Mud House Sauvignon Blanc - GOLD and BEST IN CLASS

The recently released 2011 Mud House Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has been presented with a Gold Medal and Best in Class award at one of the world's most rigorous wine shows: The International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC), held recently in  London.

This international award comes on the back of the recent announcement that Mud House Winemaker Nadine Worley was named as a finalist in the Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year awards.  "This is a fantastic reinforcement that we are doing the right thing in the vineyards and the winery", said Nadine. "We spend a great deal of time working in the vineyards, and then in the winery blending and combining various parcels to create our wine".

The IWSC judges' comments on the 2011 Mud House Sauvignon  Blanc concluded with: "A terrific example of a beautifully made wine. Delicious."

Champion Wine of the Show 2009

Mud House 2009 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has triumphed over thousands of wines to be crowned the Champion Wine of the Show in this year’s Liquorland Top 100 Wine Competition. 1,487 wines were entered into this year’s competition from which the 2009 Mud House Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc was awarded the jewel in the crown - Champion of the Show – along with the Champion Sauvignon Blanc Trophy and a gold medal.

The wine was selected from a pool of New Zealand and international wines during the Liquorland Top 100 judging event in Marlborough. Entries were expertly evaluated by a panel of 21 wine connoisseurs from New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom. Now in its 16th year, the Liquorland Top 100 is the country’s largest commercial wine competition, offering consumers an independent guide to the best wines available in New Zealand.

Liquorland Top 100 judges commented: “This Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is a real treat. Not just because it is of outstanding quality and one of the best examples of top Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc but also because it is affordable. Everyone can share this wine’s tremendous success!”

At under $20NZD a bottle, the very affordable award-winner is available at Liquorland as well as supermarkets and fine wine retailers.

The recently-released 2009 vintage is not a stranger to awards having already received a gold medal at the New Zealand International Wine Show last month. Its predecessor, the 2008 Mud House Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has also been a star performer over the past year, receiving the Best White Wine Award in the Shanghai International Wine Challenge, and a ‘Blue-Gold Top 100 Award’ in the Sydney International Wine Competition 2009.

Mud House winemaker Nadine Worley says the winemaking team knew they were onto something special following an excellent growing season and an abundance of brilliant parcels of fruit from around the Marlborough region.
We knew we had some outstanding parcels of Sauvignon Blanc from this vintage and we’re delighted that the judges of the Top 100 thought so too,” she says. “The 2009 vintage is one of the strongest blends we’ve ever produced. It has an amazing balance on the palate and fantastic length and structure. The wine covers the full spectrum of Marlborough Sauvignon flavours – the perfect mix of tropical and passionfruit flavours, herbaceous notes and grapefruit acidity.

“The Mud House Sauvignon is our hero wine, we spend a lot of time perfecting this blend and we export it all over the world – we hang our reputation on this wine which makes this win even more rewarding.”

Mud House Wines CEO Baden Ngan Kee says, “We consistently produce award winning Sauvignon Blanc, over the past two years our Mud House Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has been awarded 11 Gold medals, 13 Silver medals and 9 Bronze medals. Our crowning glory is most definitely this latest achievement, Champion Wine of the Show speaks to the outstanding efforts of our winemaking and vineyard team and our growers who delivered some stellar fruit parcels this vintage.”

The Liquorland Top 100 winners were announced at a gala dinner on Friday 2 October. Liquorland Top 100 trophy and medal winners are available in Liquorland stores across the country from Monday 5 October.
